Rockstar Poetry Project Part 1

I had the pleasure of working with Khari B on the Rockstar Poetry Project Concert a while back. If you missed the performance you missed an amazing infusion of poetry music and stage performance. Khari brings an incredible amount of energy and passion to a project and that makes it alot of fun to edit. Below are two songs performed, and the full DVD is coming soon. Check it out.

American Psycho by Drunken Monkeee

For the first time I have to give an ADULT CONTENT warning LOL. This week’s entry is "American Psycho" music video by Drunken Monkeee. This was by far one of the most, creative, "out of the box" and fun videos I've ever done. We had a short window to go from concept to final cut therefore a long drawn out pre production was out of the question. So basically I went with a shot list that followed a theme based on Monkeee's ideas and some shots I had in mind along with a loose narrative. I can't explain in words how much fun this was to put together. I need to travel to the "dark side" more often. Check out the clip PS special thanks to Jessica "Isis Rose" Reyes, Adrienne Irmer, and Melanie Shaw for doing such a great job.

Drunken Monkeee EPK

New update from sub.verse.studios. We just completed the EPK for one of Chicago's hottest and orginal hip hop artist, Drunken Monkeee. Working with Monkeee is always fun for me because not only do you get to go out the box, the box usually isn't in the room. The EPK showcases 3 of his songs and I tried to give each song its own "attitude" along with some freestyle and interviews. Check out the clip and be on the lookout for more from sub.verse.studios.

William Kurk EPK

I recently finished an EPK for musician William Kurk. William was great to work with because he has an original and refreshing sound so it was alot of fun to use that as base for the visuals. This EPK is combination of live performance and studio work that I had to weave to together around the songs. It was important to show his range from the stage to the studio. Check out the clip below.

We've worked together on Natural Progression as well as capturing footage of her at various events. I was able to combine the various footage into one project While using a common audio source for all of it. Check out the clip.

EPK for Actor Dre Peoples

Been awhile but I have a new clip to show you this week. This is the EPK for Actor Dre Peoples. Dre is a great actor with terrific character range. It was a lot of fun being able to go through his performances and highlight what he can do. Oddly enough It’s the first time I’ve been able to do an actor’s EPK and it was a nice challenge to capture the essence of someone so active in the theatre and film world.

City Census: Music Venues in Chicago

As some of you might know I'm currently working a number of projects for local musicians. I've had quite a bit of experience shooting at venues all over the city. Naturally I have my favorites and my not so favorites. However, I'd like to hear from you about your experiences and which venues would you consider your favorite spot for live music. I’d like to see if there is a consensus on the best spots in Chicago.

Arthur & Aiesha Wright Promo/Trailer

This week I'd like to share a promo I did for an upcoming short documentary I'm working on. I had the pleasure of being able to interview Arthur and Aiesha Wright, a father and daughter artist team right here in Chicago. I was amazed by the art they produced as well as what goes into making each piece. Their work can be seen at Nicole Gallery and Hidden Pearl just to name a few. Check out the clip below.

verge connected: The Audacity of Nicole Smith documentary

For the past 4 years I've had the honor and priviledge to put together a short documentary for Gallery D'Estee. Gallery D'Estee is an annual art exhibit put together by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Each year they honor a local legend in the art world with an award and a biographical documentary. This years, the honor went to Nicole Smith of Nicole Gallery. It was amazing hearing her story and learning the history behind the gallery and her career as an art collector. I've posted the documentary in 3 parts ( part 1 is below) so anyone who wasn't at the event can check out her words and the art of the gallery. If you would like to see part 2 and 3, check out my youtube page at youtube.com/svsprojects.

verge connected: Kafele EPK

This week I have the EPK for one of my favorite musicians, Kafele. If you are familiar with his work you’ll know why this was an amazing clip to work on. The interview and the live performance came together in a very fluid manner which allowed a natural flow to the editing process. I was able to shoot him in a few very distinct locations. From an upbeat fusion set at Cuarto to a stage performance at Double Door with various artist, Kafele brought something new but consistent at every performance. Check out the EPK.

verge connected: ludacrismas promo video Chicago

I know it’s been a while but I've working like crazy on some new stuff and a feature length project (stay tuned for that). Today I'm really proud to share a promo video I did for the Ludacris foundation chapter in Chicago. Every year Ludacris does a “Ludacris in Toyland” event to give inner city kids toys, food and to just have a good time on the holidays. I was honored to be asked to shoot the event and the promo I did became one of the clips they used this year. This one meant alot to me because you could see how happy they kids were and how much they appreciated the event. Plus a surprise visit from Ludacris himself didn't hurt either. A Link to their website and the clip is at the bottom. Check it out.
